Straterra Lilly is one of the drugs approved by the FDA for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children above 6 years of age, teenagers and adults. It is manufactured as Straterra by Eli Lilly and Company in the United States. The other companies which sell the drug are Attentin by Ranbaxy Laboratories, Tomoxetin by Torrent Pharmaceuticals and Sun Pharmaceuticals. AT present there is no generic Straterra available in the United States.
When Straterra vs. Adderal, a stimulant are compared, it is proven by clinical trials that it has less abuse potential. It is said that Straterra should be taken for at least 6-8 weeks before coming to a conclusion if it is effective or not. Most of the patients respond therapeutically even at lower or minimal dose of Straterra. If a patient is on stimulants that are traditionally used for the treatment of ADHD, then the dose of the stimulant should be gradually tapered to avoid side effects.
The general side effects of Straterra are weight loss caused by a decreased appetite, nausea, dry mouth, tiredness, dizziness, dysuria, sexual problems, palpitations and increase in blood pressure. The other side effects are mood swings, psychosis, depression, suicidal tendencies and abnormal thought patterns. It also has a mild to moderate potential of substance abuse.
The available Straterra dosages are of 10 mg, 18 mg, 25 mg, 40 mg and 60 mg. Straterra is also available online. It is generally given as once daily dose. If you miss the dose you should not try to double the dose. Instead you should try to take it as soon as possible lest it should near the time of the next time.
