Atomoxetine Strattera
Atomoxetine, which is classified as a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor is the drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactive disorder in children of more than six years, teens and adults. It is the only drug used in the treatment of ADHD which is approved by the FDA as not having the potency of substance abuse. Atomoxetine is marketed by Eli Lilly (under the popular name of Straterra Eli Lilly ) and Company, Ranbaxy Laboratories and Sun Pharmaceuticals under the generic name Straterra.
The generic Straterra is available online in various doses. The general Straterra dosage is 10 mg, 18 mg, 25 mg, 40 mg, 60 mg, 80 mg and 100 mg. They are available as capsules of white or gold and white or blue opaque capsules depending upon the dose. The dosage of Straterra is once daily and the dosage varies according to the individual needs and capacity.
Atomoxetine is a white solid that is available as granular powder inside the capsule along with pre- gelatinized starch and dimethicone. Adderal is another drug used in the treatment of ADHD, often causing a strattera vs adderal reactions.
The side effects of Straterra Lilly include weight loss, dry mouth, nausea, decreased appetite, irregular heartbeat, decrease or increase in urination, priapism, mood swings, abnormal sleep disturbances and dreams and suicidal tendencies. Hence if you have hypertension, irregularity in heartbeats, coronary heart disease, urinary problems, and bipolar psychiatric illness it is better to consult a physician before taking the drug.
The drug Straterra does not produce drug dependence and addiction. Hence it need not be titrated down gradually. It does not produce any harmful effects when withdrawn suddenly. Hence it’s dose is not to be doubled if you miss a dose.
