Straterra is the first non controlled medication proved by the FDA for treating ADHD. The pharmacological name of Straterra is Atomoxetine. Atomoxetine is sold under the brand name of Straterra by Eli Lilly and Company in the United States. Straterra is also available as generic Straterra and also under other names manufactured by different pharmaceutical companies, such as Straterra Lilly.

Straterra is considered the drug of choice in the treatment of ADHD compared to stimulants. Straterra is actually an antidepressant with no or minimal potential for abuse. Whereas the stimulants like Adderal causes substance abuse. When it is taken as Straterra vs. Adderal, Straterra outweighs Adderal. Adderal is a stimulant of the central nervous system which s used in the treatment of ADHD. Adderal contains amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. The amphetamine in Adderal is the reason for potency for abuse. It also causes addiction and dependence. Hence the dose of Adderal should be tittered gradually before completely withdrawing it.

Straterra on the other hand increases the amount of norepinephrine in the central nervous system which is essential for the normal brain function. It is the first drug used in the treatment of ADHD proved to be available without abuse potency. Even if it has to be withdrawn it can be withdrawn without any gradual titration.

Straterra is reported to cause weight loss as it causes a decrease in the appetite and nausea. Other side effects include mood swings, suicidal tendencies, abnormal dreams, palpitation and sleep disturbances.

Straterra is available online. The general Straterra dosage is a once daily dose. Get advice before taking Straterra if you are on other drugs as a few drugs like Amiodarone may cause serious drug interactions.
